Weekly Workouts and GLASS SLIPPER CHALLENGE!

Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! I know I’m the WORST at keeping up with posting my weekly workouts, but here it goes again.

First things first…I may or may not have accidentally signed up for the runDisney Glass Slipper Challenge in February 2014! Honestly, I don’t even know what I’m thinking any more. I’ve completely lost it. I’m already registered for the Dopey Challenge in January, for crying out loud!

But there’s something about making my triumphant return to the Princess Half, my first half marathon, one year later for this all-new weekend challenge — the 10K and half marathon — that I found impossible to resist. So…I am IN!

Sporting my Princess Half gear to celebrate getting in to the GSC!

This week, I definitely threw myself back into training for the Dumbo. I can’t believe how quickly that’s sneaking up on us! I’m upset that I missed my planned long run this weekend, but I’m headed out for a six-miler today and then plan to start with some longer back-to-back runs this coming weekend in preparation for that lovely 10K/half marathon combo that awaits me!

Sunday (9th): Thai Kickboxing class

Monday: 3 miles

Tuesday: Rest

Wednesday: 5 miles

Thursday: 3 miles

Friday: 4 miles, Taekwondo class

Saturday: Thai Kickboxing class

Sunday: Rest; we took Dad to the Museum of Natural History for Father’s Day!

Plans for this week include keeping my mileage relatively high, and also, to stop being a big baby and to vary those workouts a bit! I’m still struggling with consistency when it comes to getting in speedwork — especially since the weather has been so HOT lately — so every week I pretty much start with a renewed promise to keep pushing my speed, at least a little bit!

However, I will say that I ran in some horrendous weather this week…I was caught in not one, but two heavy rain storms. You know…the kind that makes you feel as though you’ve  jumped into a pool fully clothed.

But I just kept right on going. A little rain (okay, a LOT of rain) isn’t going to stop THIS girl from logging those miles! That’s all that counts, right?

How were everyone’s weekend runs? Anyone else get caught in any less-than-pleasant running conditions?

  1. Congrats on getting into the Glass Slipper Challenge, I still cannot believe (well, I kind of can lol) how quickly it sold out!

I wish I had some rain to run in this weekend, but all I had was humidity haha! :)

    • Hi Lauren! I know what you mean…it’s amazing just how popular these races (and “challenges”) have become!

Aw, man, I don’t know what’s worse…I think I’d definitely rather run in the rain! I’m such a baby when it comes to running in the heat/humidity. I’ll do it, but, I can’t say that I enjoy it! :)

Good runs here this weekend, with beautiful weather. My son is running the 10K part of both Dumbo and Glass Slipper so I was lucky enough to get to run a 5k with him this weekend.

  3. I had a 10K race this past weekend that kicked. my. butt! The weather got to me for sure, not used to running in hot weather, I need to work on that for Dumbo! Luckily I only needed 6 miles as I’m tapering for my half this weekend! Woohoo!

    • Hey, Lena! Congrats on the 10K, and your upcoming half! This weather is killing me, too, believe me! I’m still worried about running so many miles in California…in August! We’ll be okay, though. Hydration, hydration, hydration, right? ;)

  4. Congrats on signing up for Glass Slipper! It will be so fun to run an inaugural rundisney race I’m sure :) I often feel like I feel like I jumped in a pool fully clothed when I get back from my runs in this summer heat! haha

  5. Dumbo AND GSC? You’re a beast, girl! I hope we can meet up during GSC!

  6. I may lose my mind and try to register for the DL half for 2014. I know it sells out wicked fast, but if I can manage it, I want to make the trip happen.

  7. It’s going to be a great adventure!!! See you at Dumbo!

  8. Another person off their meds and training for the Dopey Challenge!!! I can’t wait! Best of luck!

So glad I’ve discovered your blog. I had gastric bypass 6 months ago, and have gotten into running within the last 3 months. 10 years ago I was topping the scales at over 300 pounds. I understand how amazing it truly is to finish running that first mile, especially when as a former heavy person it never seemed possible. It is kinda fun to do the impossible!!! I will be participating in the 2014 Disney Princess Half-Marathon. I cannot wait to run those magical miles!!!! Best of luck!

    • Hi Susan! Thank you so much for reading. Congratulations on your weight loss and newfound running journey…it is absolutely amazing, and I feel the same way! It’s funny you say that because I’m having my blog redesigned right now, and that quote is being included in the header! :)

You are going to LOVE the Princess Half! It is so much fun. I couldn’t have asked for a better first half marathon experience! :)

  10. So jealous! I contemplate registering for the Glass Slipper Challenge, but in the end decided that I was already making enough trips to Disney to run this year and I really should be saving some $ now that I’m back in school! I feel the same way about Wine & Dine though since that was my first race ever!

    • Believe me, I think you’ve probably made the wise choice! I’m still very much on the fence as far as whether this was a good idea (I’m thinking…probably not). I just have such a soft spot in my heart for the Princess…haha. ;)
