Liebster Award!

Hey, guys! So, Danielle over at Live, Run, Grow kindly nominated me for a Liebster Award, so I’m here to answer her questions and nominate some of my favorite bloggers!

Here it goes. :)

If you could run any race in the world what would it be?

Other than the New York City Marathon (which I’m so excited I actually get to run in November!), the Boston Marathon. I’ll never qualify based on time, but would absolutely consider running for charity in the future. Next runner-up? The London Marathon. I studied abroad in college and lived in England for a semester, and I am dying (DYING!) to go back.

What is the best race you’ve run so far?

Here’s an easy one! Hands down, the Walt Disney World Marathon. It was the most amazing race ever, and not just because it was my first marathon. It was the fastest 5 hours and 50 minutes of my life; my legs were dead and I was exhausted, don’t get me wrong, but those 26.2 miles went by so quickly because I was having SO. MUCH. FUN. I can’t wait to go back and do it all over again next year (only this time, as part of the Goofy Challenge, not the Dopey)!

What is your favorite book?

Tough one! I’m a ginormous book nerd. My favorite author is Ann Rule; she writes true crime. If I had to pick just one of her books, I’d say The Stranger Beside Me, which is about Ted Bundy and how she actually worked with the guy without having any clue whatsoever that he was a serial killer! It’s compelling stuff. I do read some “chick lit,” too — my favorite is Jennifer Weiner. I think she’s hilarious.

Favorite TV show?

Right now? Law & Order. I know it has been on for about 1,000 years, but I just started watching it a few months ago and now my DVR is full of reruns. I can’t get enough. Haha. My favorite show of all-time? Gilmore Girls. I also love The Middle, Modern Family, and The Big Bang Theory.

Is there a skill or talent you wish you had?

I wish I was a better swimmer. I really want to tackle a triathlon, but I suck at swimming. I have no technique whatsoever, and pretty much manage to drown myself every time I attempt to swim for more than, say, 30 seconds at a time.

Favorite Disney character?

Like I could really choose just one! Haha. My favorite princess is Ariel…

…and my favorite character is Winnie the Pooh. :)

And I’m obsessed with Mike and Sully from Monsters, Inc.

Oh, and I looooove Stitch.

My newest favorite? Elsa. :)

What’s the best job you ever had?

The one I have now. Or I guess I should say the two I have now. I’m a freelance writer by day, and a piano teacher by night. I’ll never be rich, but I’ve known I wanted to be a writer since I was 8 years old. The fact that I can roll out of bed at 9am to finish up a magazine article and then take time to sit here and write a blog post in my jammies at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on a Thursday somehow makes the lack of a steady paycheck all worth it. In the evenings, I teach private piano lessons. I love working with my kids…probably because I pretty much am one. :)

Is there a food you just can’t stand?

YES. Let’s see…yogurt makes me gag. (Not frozen yogurt, to be clear…I loooove that, haha). I also loathe mushrooms. And I don’t eat any seafood at all — it makes me want to hurl.

What’s your favorite, can’t live without piece of running gear?

No way I can choose just one! I’d say I’m definitely known for my Sparkle Athletic skirts, though! My mission to collect every color is almost complete… ;)

Also, I never, EVER run without a Bondi Band, because I’m fairly certain I sweat more than the average female. Seriously. I’m a hot mess without it.DSCF4096

And whether I’m heading out for 2 miles or 20 miles, I don’t go anywhere without my Pro Compression socks. I’m convinced they are magic.

What’s the one tip you would give to a new runner?

Pace yourself. And I mean that literally and figuratively. I learned the hard way that it’s definitely easy to get swept up in the fun and excitement of races — and the thrill of crossing that finish line — by doing too much, too soon. Improving your running WILL take lots and lots of time and patience, and you don’t want to get burned out (or, worse, injured)!

Okay, now it’s time for my nominations!

2.) What do you do for a living?

3.) When and why did you start blogging?

4.) What are some of your favorite ways to stay fit (again, other than running)? :)

5.) What would you say is your greatest accomplishment?

6.) If you won the lottery tomorrow…what would you spend the money on?

7.) What’s your favorite song on your running playlist?

8.) What’s your biggest pet peeve?

10.) What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Thanks for reading! :)

Comments

  1. I would LOVE to do an international race someday, and I hear great things about the London Marathon! Also the one in Greece (the original), and the Great Wall of China Marathon sound awesome.

Love all your pics for fave Disney characters (thought I’d have to say Tigger over Pooh since my nickname has been Tigger since middle school… I love him lol)!

Can you believe I don’t own a sparkle skirt yet?!

    • Jennifer says:

YES! Could you imagine? How amazing would it be to run one of those?!

And…no way! Still no sparkle skirt? Well, you gotta join the dark side, eventually. ;) I swear, they really do make you run faster…

  2. Thanks for the nomination. We’ve been nominated a few times recently and we just have to get a post out soon! I can totally relate to you and I think we would be fat friends in real life. I’ve spent some time in London and would love to go back. I am also a writer. I can’t stand yogurt unless it is the whipped or REALLY thick Greek stuff, of course I love Disney too, and there is no doubt my Labrador is a better swimmer than I am! I will let you know when we get our Leibster Post written.

    • Jennifer says:

That’s awesome, congrats! I totally agree — it sounds like we have lots in common! Looking forward to your post! :)

  3. Yay, thank you for nominating me :) I nominated you too right before I went on vacation last week. In my rush to get on the cruise ship I think I forgot to tell you!

    http://www.blogaboutrunning.com/lets-play-10-questions/

I don’t eat any seafood either — YUCK! Every one thinks it’s so weird, but really I think it’s weird that they DO eat it!

    • Jennifer says:

Aw, thanks! Appreciate it, and sorry I missed that post! I’ve been having trouble keeping up with my blog reading (and writing) lately.

AGREED. I just never developed a taste for it. Yuck.

  4. I love getting to read all the answers to the questions I chose for others!

I’d love to do the London and Rome marathons someday! And as for swimming, remember how hard it was when you started running??! You can totally do it! Most Y’s actually offer adult swimming classes (I have a friend doing it now) and then you can get out there and tackle that tri!

P.S. – I threw in the favorite Disney character question because I knew it would be a tough one, but I was interested to see how everyone answered it! : )

    • Jennifer says:

I know, I know…you’re absolutely right. Heck, running is STILL hard, haha. Todd and I actually have already discussed taking a swimming class together, so that’s definitely something I’m looking into!

It IS a tough question — no way I could only choose one! ;)

  5. Thank you for the nomination! I actually did a post a few months ago for the Liebster Award. I love fun, little surveys : ) My favorite race is the Walt Disney World Marathon too : ) I’m so looking forward to getting to do it again in 2015! I would love to run the NYC Marathon, but just won’t be able to this year…maybe London though!

    • Jennifer says:

You’re welcome! I love them, too. There’s NOTHING like the WDW Marathon, that’s for sure…but I can only imagine how amazing it would be to run an international race!

  6. Congratulations and thank you for nominating me! I always love seeing all your pictures, you are always smiling!
I hope to see you soon, look for my post early next week ;)

  7. I loved getting to read your answers! And all the character costume pictures! I am definitely stealing some for future Disney races :)

I have the same issues with swimming! I would love to try a triathlon, but I am TERRIFIED of the swimming part. I love being in the water, but I’m just not a very strong swimmer! :(

    • Jennifer says:

Thanks, Kellie! Yup, same here — it’s not that I CAN’T swim, it’s just that trying to go at any consistent pace leaves me gasping for breath…no matter how “in shape” I think I am, a few minutes in the water totally kicks my butt!

  8. It’s good to know that I’m not the only one who sucks at competitive swimming which, according to the comments, is a lot more common than I thought. I have recently begun training for a tri and the swimming has been a humbling experience. Thanks for the nomination!

    • Jennifer says:

Sure thing! It’s awesome that you’re doing it, though! I know what you mean — no matter how many marathons I run or how in shape I think I am, one minute in the water and I’m gasping for breath, haha.

  9. how excited are you about the rumors that the disneyland 10k this year is lilo and stitch themed?? imagine your very own stitch medal!
