Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend 2014: Costume Reveal!

So this is quite possibly the first time I’ve ever blogged two days in a row! But I wanted to share some deets about our trip before we head to California for the Disneyland Half Marathon and Dumbo Double Dare — specifically, our race costumes! :)

As many of you know, the theme of this year’s 5K and 10K is Lilo & Stitch…and I have been OBSESSED with this movie ever since it came out. Couldn’t really tell you why. I just love him.

Anyway, I’ve been wanting to dress up as Stitch for a race for awhile, and figured this would be the perfect opportunity, since the 5K/10K medals and race shirts will both feature my favorite alien. (And don’t think I’m not disappointed that I didn’t sign up for the 5K, because I totally am now!) :(

For the 10K on Saturday, I will be wearing this little get-up:

I figured it was an easy costume, and thanks to my penchant for locating ridiculous hats (this one’s from eBay, not sure if it’s still available in the parks), I don’t think anyone will have any doubt who I’m supposed to be, haha. Mind you, I know once I cross that starting line I’m going to IMMEDIATELY regret the decision to wear a giant plush hat on my head and a pair of ridiculously hot Stitch “mitts” on my hands — especially since it’s supposed to be in the upper-80′s and low-90′s ALL WEEKEND — but, I’m going to go ahead and do it anyway. I’ve done crazier things. Like wear bowls on my head and whatnot, which I did for last year’s Disneyland Half Marathon. ;)

Before I go any further, I have to give a shout-out to Todd’s mom, Nancy, because she is always the mastermind behind our race costumes. I come to her with a concept and a picture of the character (because more often than not she has absolutely no clue what I’m talking about, LOL), and she makes it happen. The majority of our stuff is made from regular tech clothes and some felt and fabric glue, but let’s just say I’m not the craftiest person in the world and very much need the help!

For the half marathon, I decided to go as Stitch’s best pal, complete with a headband and wrist and ankle flowers just like Lilo wears in the movie. We cut up a couple of green leis and then my personal costume designer had the brilliant idea of threading the flowers with elastic so they’ll stay on. (Of course, I’ll be bringing plenty of Body Glide to help ward off any and all chafing issues this may cause!)

0827140906I went for a combination of Lilo’s two outfits, since I’m not prancing around in a red bra nor will I run a half marathon in something that can only be described as a muumuu.

Best of all, Todd, bless his heart, was more than willing to dress up as the Stitch to my Lilo!

He refused to wear what is essentially half a stuffed animal on his head, though, so I took a Stitch headband I already owned (again, gotta love eBay!) and he’ll wear it on top of a baseball cap that we (and be “we,” I mean Nancy, LOL) transformed into Stitch’s face.

  3. I love this! I really got jealous when I Stitch was going to be the mascot for the 5k and 10k. I didn’t see the movie until a few years after it was in theaters but I love it and quote it all the time.

  4. Your costumes are seriously the best! Way to go Nancy! ;) You two are going to look so cute together! There is no way I could get Adam to dress up for a Disney race like that with me, I’ll be lucky if he wears a Santa hat at the Christmas 5K this year lol. Todd is a good man! :) He must love you a lot. Way more than Adam loves me, haha!

  5. omg adorable!

  6. i’m really hoping i can do this one next year!! But i won’t have any cute costumes like you… very creative :)

  7. Awesome costumes! I’m a long time reader, 1st time poster and former Jersey Girl (Vegas Girl now) myself and I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your blog. You’ve been an inspiration to me many a time!! My family and I will be down for the Disneyland Race weekend and will be easy Oozma Kappas for the 10k. I’m doing the Half on Sunday by myself and had originally planned to go as Maleficent, prior to the theme being announced, but then switched to a Lilo costume. Unfortunately, its only partially done soo dark fairy may trump Hawaiian cutie lol! I will say Hi if I spot you! Have a great time :)

  8. Those are AWESOME! Have fun and make sure you hydrate extra with that fuzzball on your melon! :)

  9. Your costumes are sooo stinking cute! Good luck and have fun this weekend!

  10. Your costumes are absolutely adorable! Can’t wait to see your pictures!

  11. These are ADORABLE! Hope you had a ton of fun!

  12. We totally saw you! You were taking a pic about to enter the stadium before the Cliff gel area. I wasn’t quite sure and was too chicken to run back and say “hi”. Now that I see your costumes, I know it was you (that and it turns out you’re in some of our finisher pic options on Marathon Foto).

  13. Your style is unique compared to other folks I’ve read stuff from.

Thanks for posting when you have the opportunity, Guess I’ll just bookmark this page.
